THE GOVERNOR'S TOUR.

Feiloino, Oct 12.

The governor arrived at one o'clock, and was received by the Mayor and Councillors. He was thtn driven to the Town Hall, where the address was read by the Town Clerk. The Governor replied in a highly complimentary speech. He was driven around the town by the Mayor, Mr Mao arthur, and then to the station. The Manchester Rifles attended as a Guard of Honor. About fifteen hundred persons were present. The enthusiasm was immense, His Excellency being loudly cheered as the vice-regal party left by special train at 2 p in, Palmekston North, Oct 13. The Governor arrived at 3.30 yesterday, and, 'in spite of the bad weather, 2000 people assembled at the Railway station. The Mayor being absent through illness, an address was presented by Mr Snelson, Chairman of the Road Board. His Excellency, in responding, expressed gratification at the loyal reception, and congratulated the district on the advance made. A procession was then formed, consisting of the members of local bodies, Friendly Societies, and Volunteers, the latter forming a guird of honor, and proceeded to the Commercial Hotel. On the way the Governor delivered a short address to the schoolchildren gathered on the Square. After a few minuted stay at the Commercial Hotel the Governor proceeded to the Bank Chambers, where luncheon was spread. In responding to the toast of " Our Guest," the Governor alluded to the depression, which he attributed to the colony having gone too fast. He thought the gradual introduction of more population to help to bear the burden of taxation would make it pass away, and that in future the colony would be not only a great agricultural but a manufacturing one also.
