MEETING OF PROVISIONAL COMMITTEE.

The first meeting of the committee was held immediately after the closing of the public meeting, Messrs Thorpe and Rees were added tp Jhose elected. Mr Ballance was appointed Ijfjiairman, and stated that their first object should be to decide whether a prospecting party should be sent, and if so, how the prospectors should be supported — whether by subscription, or the formation of a company. After considerable discussion the following resolution was carried " That in the opinion of this committee it is desirable to send a prospecting party into the Tuhua country provided that the meeting at Koriniti consents. Prior to the resolution -being passed j Takarangi and Mete Kingi addressed the meeting. He said it would be well for them to arrange things there first of all. Their duty would be to carry out the rest of the talk, and have everything arranged before the meeting at Koriniti on the 28th, so that their doings' could be laid before Major Kemp, Ngatai, Mamuku, and other chiefs who were eppected at the meeting. When their, resolutions were laid before the Koriniti meeting, they would be assented to and carried out. He would not say anything as to what should be paid to Europeans for prospecting. He had nothing to do with it ; they could arrange that, and also how many they could send. What he had said would be reported at the meeting at Koriniti. — Mr Hutchison proposed that this meeting recommend to the public meeting, that a company be formed, with a capital of £500 in 500 shares of £1 each, and the sum of £100 be raised thereon to be expended on sending a prospecting party — carried unanimously, Regarding the number of prospectors Mr Manson moved that the number be three, with an interpreter, amendments in favor of four and five were lost, and the motion declared carried. It was resolved that an 'advertisement be inserted in the papers for one day, requesting applications from these wishing to form a prospecting party, to explore the Tuhua country for gold, applicants to be at the meeting on Monday evening. Mr Ballance and Filmer were appointed a sub-committee to draw up a prospectur for the committee h ing on Monday evening, and Mr Filmer was appointed Secetary pro tern. The meeting then adjourned till Monday evening at 7.30 when Major Kemp is expected down.
