LOST IN THE BUSH.
(from oub own correspondent.)
Opunake, March 12. A man named Bartholomew Lambert wandered from his tent in the bush on Monday night, and is lost. He was recovering from a heavy drinking bout, and although restless and nervous, seemed to think a few days' hard work would benefit him. In consequence, he went up to Mr Stewart's contract, on Kaweora Road, on Monday afternoon, during which he conversed freely and rationally with the other men employed, and turned in at 9 o'clock. About midnight Lambert became very restless, and stating he wished to get up and sit by the fire seized this opportunity of slipping into the bush unperceived. On being missed, his mates immediately searched the bush in the vicinity of the camp, but owing to the darkness and swampy ground they were unable to track him. A combined search party of bushmen and A.C;'s in charge of Sergeant Foley and Constable Twomy are out scouring the bush in the direction Lambert was seen to take, but up to the present (Wednesday morniner) he has not been found. As the poor fellow has been two nights away without hat or coat unless he is discovered to-day his position is critical.
Dr. Sinclair, the eminent Dentist, will arrive shortly. — See advertisement.
