COUNTY COUNCIL.

. *. The ordinary monthly meeting of the County Council was held in the Rutland Chambleis this morning There were present — Messrs Craig (chairman), Dymock, Poison, Sommerville, and Kennedy. Minutes. — The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. ALTEKAtioN ofl Meeting. — It wasresolved on the motion of Mr Poison, seconded by Mr Kennedy, that the next meeting of the Council be held on Wednesday the 28th inst., instead of Tuesday the 4th Dec. Mattngatepoui Stream. — A letter was received from the Rangitikei County Council, enclosing a resolution passed at the last meeting of the Council applying to the Wani^anui Council for a moiety ot the co-t of erecting a bridge over the Maungateponi stream, the Council to be informed that if this is not complied with the work cannot be proceeded with. — The clerk was instructed to reply that the bridge is out of the County boundaries. Widening Murimotu Road — Tenders, as follows, were received for the widening of the Murimotu track :— Reid, £1 12s per chain ; Jackson, £2 5s 6d ; Vivian, £2 4s 9d ; Vincent, £2 2s 6d ; and Smith, £2 19s. It was moved by Cr Poison, seconded by Cr Dymock, that no money be spent till the district to be benefitted by the expenditure be defined, and the consent of the settlers be obtained, and it was afterwards resolved to call fresh tenders for widening 300 chains of the road. Kauangaroa Bridge. — The clerk to the Rangitikei County Council wrote, statin* that the Council considered it advisable to proceed at once with,; the erection of the bridge at Kauangaroa, and if approved of by this Council, steps will be taken for carrying out the work. A committee was appointed to wait on the Rangitikei County Council in reference to the matter. Upokongaro Road. — A large deputation waited on the Council ia reference to the forming of the road at Upokongaro beyond Mr George tti's. It was resolved, after a lengthy discussion, on the motion of Cr Sommerville, seconded by Cr Kennedy, 'thjat the offer of the Wangaehu Road Board to advance the sum necessary to open the line of road for the settlers between Georgetti's and McGregor's be accepted, such sum to be repaid the Wangaehu Board by this Council from the amount received from the Roads and Bridges Construction Act for the Murimotu Road. Special Orders. — Thejfollowing motions were agreed to : — Moved by Cr. Kennedy seconded by Cr. Poison : — That the Council do make a special order constituting a new road district within the County under the name of the Mangawhero Road Disirict with the boundaries as laid down in red on the map of the Wangaehu district. That the number of members shall be five. Moved by Cr Poison, seconded by Cr. Summerville, That the Council do make a special order constituting a new Road District within the County under the name of the Upper Wangaehu Road District, with boundaries as per plan. That the number of members shall be four. — Moved by Cr Sommerville, seconded by Cr Poison, That the Council make a special order denning the boundaries of subdivision No. 1 6 of the Wangaehu Road District, and the boundaries of Makirikiri, Waipikura, and Mangawhero Ridings, and to substitute the name of " Mataongaonga " for " Waipakura," and "Kaukatea" for " Makirikiri." Accounts. — Accounts amounting to £20 18s 8d were passed for payment. Roads Required. — A letter was received from Mr Annabel!, pointing out a number of sections, the right to take roads through which shortly expires, and asking whether the Council required roads through them. — The letter was received. Several other matters of detail were arranged, and the Council rose.
