AUCKLAND.
Nov 6. Hlyde, a German, arrested for forging cheques, was remanded till the 13th. The forgeries were admirably executed. A quantity of tracing paper was found in the possession of the accused. He came from Sydney last August, and was clearing out by the first steamer for Sydney when captured . By the Penguin, intelligence was received of the murder of a trader, Edward McEwan, at the station at Apia, by natives. A Frenchman named Matthew Yarrow, was tomahawked while trading at Ahoa. Nov 6. A Te Aroha telegram says the cleaning up at the battery after 24 hours crushing gives a highly satisfactory result, viz , Premier (10 head), 126 ounces ; New Find (10 head), 80 ounces ; Werahiko (5 head), 69J ounces ; Colonist, (lo head), 29 ounces: Waitoke (5 head), 15& ounces amalgum.
