The coloniil bread stuffs market continues dull. Last quotations — Adelaide wheat, ex store, 45 ; New Zealand ditto, 38s 6d to 43s 6d ; Adelaide flour, ex store, 325. The total quantity of wheat afloat for the United Kingdom is 1,920,000 quarters, an increase of 130,000 during the week. Australian tallow has further declined 6d per cwt. To-day's quotations — Best beef, 38s 6d ; best mutton, 40s. The market rate of discount has fallen to 2§ per cent., and is now g below Bank rate. BANK DIVIDEND. The London Chartered Bank of Australia has declared a dividend of 3J per cent, on the last half year, and carries £10,000 to the reserve. Received Nov 5, 11.45 a.m. A TORY VICTORY. London, Nov 3. — Sir Stafford Northeote was today elected rector of the University of Edinburgh, vice Earl Roseberry. He defeated Geo. Trevelyan, Chief Secretary of Ireland, who was a candidate for the rectorship. TERRIBLE FIRE IN GLASGOW. A disastrous fire occurred to-day in Buchanan Street, Glasgow, at the warehouse of Messrs Wylie and Lockhead, paper stainerc. The fire raged for some time, and before the flames could be extinguished the building and contents were completely destroyed. The loss is set down at fully £200,000. CHANGES IN THE FRENCH MINISTRY. P^ris, Nov 3.— M. Challemel Lacour, speaking at Cannes, announced he had resigned his position in the French Ministry, and that M. Ferry, Premier, would, in the interim, take the portfolio of Foreign Affairs. THE TONQUIN EXPEDITION. He further stated that M. Ferry will, next week, ask the Chamber of Deputies to vote a credit of ten million franc 3to cover the expenses of the Tonquin expedition. A despatch has been received from Tonquin announcing that Admiral Combet is now at Hani, and is preparing to attack Bae Ninh without delay. His force will consist of 3000 men, including the artillery with thirty guns. STRANGLING OF THE MALAGASY ENVOYS. A report has reached here from Mada gascar that the Malagasy envoys, who recently returned there from Europe, have been strangled. NIHILIST PLOT AGAINST BISMARCK. Berlin, Nov 3. — A Russian was arrested t>day at Devsehan, near Dantaia, Piuseia, having confessed he was in Germany on a Nihilist mission to murder the Prince Bismarck.
