The football match between the Nelson and Wellington Colleges resulted in a win for the former by ft goal and two ties to a goal. Johu Grappell and Charles Brown have been committed for trial on a charge of the robbery of Henrickson's jewellery at Auckland. f , „ The New Zealand and Australian Land Company have chartered trsro sailing vessels for three voyages to take frozen meat from Port Chalmers. They will take about 50,000 carcases. In a Dublin paper some time since, was a biographical notice of Robespierre, which concluded as follows :— " This extraordinary man left no children behind him, except his brother, who was killed at the same time." In marching, soldiers take seventy-five steps per minute; quick marching, one hundred and eight; and in charging, one hundred and fifty steps. At the inquest on the body of Jas. Beatton at Auckland, a verdict of accidentally drowned was returned. Deceased was a native of Greenook. A boy at school, on being asked to describe a kitten, said—" A kitten is remark, able for rushing like mad at nothing whatever, and stopping before it gets there." The Auckland 'Trades and Labor Council have passed a resolution protesting against any relaxation of the embargo upon Chinese , emigration. They have wired the resolution to several members.
