TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — I see reported in your columns that a drum and fife band Js. bping organised sin Wanganui in connection with the High School, and tftat they are in.wjjnt.of %bjg drum ; also tfe»t they are. qffored one ftom, Marton. Now, sir, there are only two big drums in Marton, one of which belongs to the volunteers and if not for sale, the other is publio property. -and cannot-bp.spld at all. Though the Temperance Band - have been using it it was originally given by Mr J. W. Baker to the Drum and .Fife Band here, with the promise that should they break up it should become the property of the town an 4be available for a town band, but if; was not to be sold. Should .lf^e. necessary I will bring those gentlemen Jo*ward who were present at th«t tune the drum was handed over, and who, heard the conditions. While not wishing to throw cold water on the object of the Wanganui school, I decidedly do object to private parties tty ing to dispose of public property.— l an»i Sec, Music.
