ARREST OF A NEW ZEALAND

Melbourne, Feb 15.— The police last night effected the arrest of George Clarke, of Clyde, Ottgo, on a charge of embezzling the sum of £480. Accused was clerk of the Vincent County Council. He is now detained in custody, pending the arrival of a warrant from New Zealand.
The laborers and drivers in the coal trade struck on Monday, and it is now feared that the strike will extend to lumpers and others. They demand that the eight hours system shall be adopted. Masters refuse to agree to the demands of the men, and threateu to lay up vessels engaged in the coal trade.
