NEWS FROM TAUPO.

(from oub own oobeespondent.)

Taupo, Jan 4.

Under authority of a warrant from here to Major Scully to seize a box in the booking office at Napier, supposed to contain some petrified incrustations that would help to corroborate the charge brought agains tone of the police for malicious injury to a geysercalled the " Crow's Nest," the property of. the General Government (which charge has since been dismissed on its merits), was brought and opened in the R.M. Court. At the hearing of the case it contained nothing but sulphur specimens. Major Scully found the box in the possession of a Mr Wright, telegraphist, who had been to the booking office and paid for the carriage, and declined to give his authority for so doing. The coachman who took down the box was subpeened to gire evidence, but did not put in an appearance at the trial. The box and specimens are now in the possession of the authorities. It now remains to be seen if the police will take any steps in the matter to discover who sent it to the booking office in Napier. The late charges against the A.CJ have been brought in Court by a civilian of some 14 years residence in Taupo, who, it is feared, will in consequence incur a considerable amount of ill-feeling from some of the residents.
