The school returns for the quarter show a substantial increase on the average attendance, this quarter exceeding any previous one for the last two years.

The proprietors of tho Roslyn Woollen Mills, Messrs Ross and Glendining, are thoroughly satisfied with the electric light, which they have been using for some months in the mills. It gobs on continually all night long, so that tjie light has -been thoroughly tested. The cost is much less than gos, but the steam motive power used for the spinning machines is also used to generate the electricity The big dredge is getting a thorough overhaul, and will tackle the bar again at the first favorable opportunity, It has been dredging beside the wharves at Port Chalmers for some months.

The following has been selected as the crew in connection with tho Wanganui Rowing Club :— Curtis (stroke) ; Clifford, 3 ; Booth, 2 ; Thomson, bow.

Tho following crews have been selected by the Captain to represent tho Union Boat voiub at the forthcoming regatta : — Senior toutrigged and inrigged races : H. Woods stroke, J. Ruscoe 3, W. McGonagle 2, J. B. Leydon bow. Junior outrigged and inrigged races : W. Nicholson stroke, E. Hackett 3, Jas,'Quin 2, W. O'Donnell bow. Two crews will practice for the Maiden : W. Aiken stroke, Palmer 3, Armstrong 2, Townsend bow ; Lawler stroke, Davenport 3, Collins 2, Meehan bow. A secqnd junior crew will probably be made up by next week. A splendid opportunity for those wishing to avail themselves of an. excursion treat is offered next week, when f the Tui will leave for a trip round the Sounds, taking in visits to the Picton coal mine, Durville's Islaud. Fiench Pass, Pelorus Sound, and Port Hardy. The steamer is advertised to go on Wednesday, at 11 p.m., and the fare for the trip is only £3, and should over 25 excursionists send in their names the fares will be proportionately reduced. The principal amusements will be fishing and shooting, and the trip should prove a most successful one.
