London, August 28, 6.8 a.m.— The occupation of Gassassine secures theeafe passage of the desert.

The railway between Suez and TsmailU has been repaired.

The Royal Engineers have arrived at Isinailia, and a further reserve has been formed of the Indian contingent. M. De Lcsseps has embarked for France.

Alexandria, August 28.— General Hamley, commanding a strong force of British troops, advanced on Kafradowar yesterday (Sunday) and opened fire with his artillery upon the enemy's entrenched camps. Tbe enemy's return fire was of the feeblest description, and it is believed that Arabi has withdrawn the bulk of his troops from Kafradowar.

Sir Garnet Wolseley has repaired the railway between Ismailia and Rameses, aud the intermediate country is now occupied by British troops.

A detachment of the Bengal Native Cavalry has arrived at Suez, and has been despatched to the front.

Constantinople, August 28. — Further communications ' have recently passed between tho Turkish Government and Lord Dufferin with reference to the proposed military convention for the pacification of Egypt. The Porte has now informed the British Ambassador that it accepts the convention, and has agreed to proclaim Arabi ia

rebel against the Imperial Government.
