THE DUNEDIN BIRTHDAY RACES.

[Special to the Herald.] ! Dunedin, May 26. The Queen's Birthday races at Forbury Racecourse were, owing to the inclemency of the weather on Saturday, adjourned until .to-day. Contrary , to expectations the day turned out fine, and notwithstanding that a large number of visitors who came specially to see the races on Saturday went to their homes and would not return, there was a good attendance. Nearly all the retail and many of the wholesale places of business were closed to-day. The course was. very heavy. 5* For the Handicap Hurdles, two miles and a distance, there were four started Price's Everday and WinkEeld's Exile were scratched. They all took the hurdles, and Mountain Queen coming on her nose lost all chance of the race. It resulted in a finish between Kildare and Romance, but just before coming into the straight Romance fell. Xildare, 1 ; Mountain Queen, 2 ; Romance, 3. Maiden Plate. — Daley's Baron was scratched. After two unsuccessful attempts were made a start was effected* Sir James being a strong favorite. Bothwell led all through the race and won easily; Bothwell, I ; Dalesman, 2 ; Sir James, 3. Time, 2 mm. 32 Bees. The Birthday Handicap was the race of the day. Goodman declared to win with Yoyk,. who was a hot favorite, the bookmakers closing their books against this horse. The race was between Atlantic and Blue Peter, and resulted in the first winning, Blue Peter a good second} '■ : Chancellor third, and York last. Time, 3 mm. 28 aeca. Distance, lj milea. '
