Hugh McMahon and Herman Brown pleaded guilty to being drunk and incapable, and were fined 5s each or 24 hours imprisonment.

ASSAULT,

Samuel Brown was charged with assaulting James Brady by striking him in the eye ; pleaded guilty but that he also, had .great provocation. He stated that he waß employed .permanently on the wharf by E. and S. Wright and the the prosecutor was temporarily employed. He' (defendant) told the prosecutor to carefully handle some cases containing jrlass, when he was grossly insulted, by the use of certain expressions and tventually He hit prosecutor.— Mr S, Wright corroborated and a fine of Is was inflicted, as although great provocation had been given, the remedy was not in the defendant's hands ; costs ss.

Jeremiah Corney was charged by his wife, Sarah Ann Corney, with assault and threatening her life. He said he knew nothing, about the matter as he was drunk, Sarah Ann Corney eaid that on Sunday morning her husband having spent all his fortnight's wages in drink on the Saturday, pufled her out of bed jumped on her, and otherwise ill-treated Her asd her little boy. He threatened to drive a knife into her heart and she went away in fear of her life. Ordered.tb find sureties^ to keep the peace for three months, himself in £25, and two sureties of £10 each. As he could not do so he was locked up in default. O. Smith, charged with lunaoy, was dismissed.
