THE WATT BEQUEST.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, — I make bold to ask you, Sir, when will the Orphanage to be established by your very worthy Mayor, Mr Watt, be ready. I see by our Patea paper this morning, and you are given as the authority, that this liberal gentleman is to establish such an institution, for which' I am sure there is a great need, and therefore would you give the public more particulars. For, Sir, lam the mother of two helpless boys whioh I am sorely distressed to provide for, and would like to gel them into this noble institution, I am, &c., A Widow. Patea, 28th August, 1878. [It is evident that out" account of the Orphanage bequest to be made by Mr W. H. Watt has not been sufficiently explicit. Taking a fair average of the duration of a human life, the Orphanage will not be established for at least 60 years, so that the widow's " helpless boys " wilj not participate in the " noble institution," as necessarily by that time they will cease to be eligible. The Orphanage will be established 21 years after fchejdeath of one of Mr, W. 11. Watt's sons, now finishing his education in England, and we feel sure every one will wish so talented a young gentleman a long and happy life. — Ed W.H.].
