Business Cards PROSPECiUS OF THE WANGANUI THEATRE COMPANT, LIMITED. CAPITAL £6000, in 1200 shares of £5 eacn with power to increase to £8000. ■a — — Provisional Directors : Mr.WM.THos. Owen Mr. John P. Watt Mr. F. E. Jackson Mr. A. D. Willis Mr. John Duthie v Dr. If. C. Eahle Mr. JF. M. Beits Mr. C. H. Boblase Mr. James Bull Mr. Andrew Tod Bankers : Solicitors : Bank of New Zealand. Borlase & Barnicoat Manager (pro. teno.) : Mr. freeman E. Jackson, Briefly stated, the objects of this Company are the purchase of a suitable site in the Borough of Wanganui, and the erection thereon' of a Theatre capable of accommodating 1500 people. It may be at once taken for granted that the necessity for a Theatre, commodious in sizes and complete in appointments, is freely admitted, but acquiescence in an abstract idea is not sufficient, therefore the Provisional Directors desire to place a few features of the proposed scheme prominently before the public, so that general practical assistance may be given :—: — 1. That the existence of a Theatre supplied , with complete stage appliances, and with a large auditorium, would be the means of attracting to Wanganui, those superior companies, both dramatic and musical, that at present are compelled to pass by our town, a? offering no facilities for either a remunerative audience, or for the proper and eatisfactoiy representation of the specialities of the said companies.- It is a patent therefore, that with a Theatre such as it is proposed to build, Wanganui would be included in the list of towns to be visited by the very best travelling talent south of the Line. 2. That the existence of a good Theatre at which a first-class entertainment could be seen, would be the means of attracting to the town numbers of country residents, who at present find in their own particular settlements almost equal amusement and attraction to that found in Wanganui. 3. That the extension of the railway system north and south will bring Wanganui into closer communication with the country districts, and therefore the facilities for visiting the town will be greatly enhanced. 4. That the rapid increase in the population of the town necessitates the erection of a building which could be used as occasion required for public gatherings. 5. Lastly, that a Theatre, economically and efficiently managed, would pay a handsome dividend to the shareholders. The provisional Directors thus shortly place before the public their reasons for embarking in this enterprise. The site for the building -haa^apb yet been decided upon, but several scctirafs-nra^uflcleiujfjer to theJ3oard, and careful consideration wflFTxTgivcn -to-tiie" selection, so that the questions of convenience and position may not be over looked. It is intended to erect in conjunction with the Theatre, an Hotel, superior in character arid accommodation, from which a large rental may reasonably be expected. The nominal capital of the Company has been fixed at £6000 in 1.200 shares of £5 each, power being retained to increase same to £8000, but it is believed it will only be necessary to call up about £3000, as the balance of the capital expenditure may be raised by way of mortgage through a Building Society, or by such other way as the 'Directors may determine. The terms of subscription are 5s per share on application, and 5s per share on allotment. Further .calls to be made at such times as the Directors may decide, but shall not exceed 10s per share at any one time, nor be made afc less intervals than two calendar months.' Applications for shares to be mado to the Manager. ' THE WONDER OF THE NINETEENTH CENTURY.
