A meeting was held to-day at Mr Ohurton's office of the Committee appointed to obtain an act to form a Harbour Board. A.' conversation ensued regarding the disposal of the £3000 and not £4000, as we were led to believe, held by the Provincial Government for the improvement of Harbpur (Works on the river . ; The following gentlemen were present, viz : — Messrs. Duthie (in the cliair), Watt, Drew,- Bell,- Cass, Jackson, and Tod. Mr Watt movedr— That the Provincial Government be requested not to expend any more money on the river till the committee are able to forward plans and specifications of- a dredging machine. Mr Murray be invited to prepare such plans &c, with an estimate of the cost. Secon-' ded by Mr, Drew and carried unanimously. Mr Jackson proposed — That the Secietary submit a copy of the Superintendent's reply to the district members asking them to further the object in view by introducing a Bill at the next meeting of the Assembly, constituting a Harboi/r Board :for Wanganui. "Seconded by Mr Cass. Carried unanimously. . The Committee seemed tO; bo rather in the dark with regard to the ' actual cost of a dredge. And Mr Band, does not seem to have enlightened theni. A vote of thanks to the Chairman terminated the proceedings. -
