F. W. Paul, manager of the Bank of New South Wales, was marking at Rifle Butts yesterday, when a bullet rebounded from the target and struck him on the eyelid, inflicting- a severe wound. It is not known whether his sight is injured permanently or not.

Mr Shapley, General Superintendent of the Eastern .Extension Telegraph Company, has finally decided on the landing place for the Australian New Zealand cable. It is about 15 miles from the Nelson Telegraph office, and about four miles from the Whaka Puaka end of the Boulder Bank. Arrangements have been made by the Government for tlie immediate extension of the land line to this spot, and it is confidently expected that there will be telegraphic communication between Australia and New Zealand by the beginning of March.

At the inquest on tlio body of Packer a verdict of wilful murder was recorded against the Maori Wynyard.
