P A TEA.
(From our own correspondent.)
The match between Wanganui and Patea was played here yesterday, a copy of which I enclose you. The weather proved better than was expected, Patea being proverbial for a three days rain when once it starts. Some vi the Wanganui team got wet on their way tip. The wickets were struck about (5 p.m., with a victory to Patea of 130 runs. On Tuesday and Wednesday nights Mr Levoi exhibited his canine troupe with
medium success. The . performances of tho dogs were extraordinary, and well worth seeing . The want of the Panorama however caused some considerable disappointment. The extraordinary number of 400 sharks was caught by the Maorica on the beach near the mouth of tho Waingongora River last week. Some of them were only a foot loi g, and some even less. The greater number, however, were quite Large enough to make one feel the effects of too close proximity to their jaws. The contractor is making rapid progress with the Town Hall, and its completion will undoubtedly be a boon to the township. The " gold question " seems to have died a natural death, nothing has been heard of or from Mr Casey since I last wrote, although it is understood he is still on his own place. Several attempts were made to interrogate him upon the matter, but nothing of any importance could be elicited.
