AUCKLAND.
Nov. 9thV: Star of the South from Levuka brings full particulars regarding the cession of Fiji on the 10th of October. All unoccupied land or not required for the use of chiefs or tribes shall become absolute property of the Queen. Also all land and public buildings in use as public offices. The Queen has also the right of: taking any land required on payment of reasonable compensation, rights of chiefs to be recognised as far as consistent with the good of the colony. Officers appointed—Layard, VicePresident of Executive Council and Administrator of the Government; Horton, Treasurer ; Thurston, Colonial Secretary ; Swanson, Secretary for Native Affairs. . ; •
