Sin, —I observe in the report in your contemporary of yesterday's .date . that I am made to say that I visited. Raple.y's and the Ship Hotel during- the course of Saturday last prior to my serving- a writ of ejectment upon Williams, but that I denied " beiug drunk during- the day or at the time of serving the writ," This was elicited from me upon cross-examination, with the evident intention upon the part of Mr Geo. Hutchison, of u&ing it at a future date with the view of upsetting the service of the writ, but I am glad to be in a position to state that this gentleman's little game has been frustrated by the decision of the Bench, who, in dismissing the case (without calling upon me for evidence) of Williams against myself for abusive language stated, "that there was not a particle of evidence to show that I was in any way suffering from intoxication, and that in their opinion it was due to me that they should give publicity to such statement. As for the truthfulness of your contemporary's report of yesterday, I would venture to simply "say that it is very far removed from the truth, and makes Mr Hutchison to have said that which he never urged in the course of the hearing. I must plead entire ignorance as to that person ever having- referred to the " res qestm." It is a noticeable feature that that the reporter of the Chronicle absented himself when judgment was about being .delivered, .in which the attempted aspersion was so clearly and unmistakeably refuted.-—Yours, &c, . • ■, Edw, H, Diujry.
