PARLIAMENTARY,
WELLINGTON.
November 1
Disgraceful scene in the House over Payment of Provinces Act, Mervyn thinking his district unfairly treated, and offering factious opposition. The chairman had to report him to the Speaker ; and at length, after doors being locked seven times, and he being unable to find another teller, the Chairman refused to take any further notice of his demands for a division.
Parata offered to carry Mervyn bodily to his lodgings if committee wished it. " After upwards of nine hours lighting over the Bill it passed through at 3.30 this morning.
