The autumn show of this Society was opened to the public this afternoon, and notwithstanding the very inclement weather lately, a veiy fair exhibition of flowers was shown, Mr A. Williamson as usual coming to the fore with a splendid collection of pot plants. Mr J. Sharp also sho-vs a really creditable collection, and has been re warded by the first prize. Mrs Watt's greenhouse has been laid under contribution, and some very handsome varieties exhibited. Several hand bouquets are exhibited, the first prize being taken by Mr Laird, the second by Mr Patterson, and the third by Mr Sharp, all of the bouquets bein» prettily and tastefully arranged. A collection of ferns is shown by Mr A. Williamson, also a bundle of wild plants. Fruit and vegetables are shown in abundance, some astonishing fine varieties being exhibited. Pears, apples, plums, &c.,. from Mr Patterson's orchard being especially noticeable. Mrs Watt and Mi- Beaven also showing some excellent fruit. Mrs Watt's grapes are triumphs of horticultural skill, and present a most tempting appearance. The vegetables are the finest that have ever been exhibited, the varieties being numerous and -well grown. Cabbages, carrots, and turnips were large enough to satisfy the most ambitious of farmers, while the pumpkins and vegetable marrows are perfect marvels of size. The jams and jellies are worthy of especial notice, the first prize being awarded to Mr W. F. Russell for a pot of magnum bonum plum jam. A tempting dish of apple jelly received more than ordinary attention. We shall publish a correct list of prizes tomorrow, the judge's awards being made too late for insertion to-day. The Hall will be opened to the public this evening, so that everybody will have an opportunity of seeing the fountain at work, a new feature which has been introduced, and which adds greatly to the appearance of the Hall. The Dium and Fife band will be in attendance.
