TO THE EDITOR OP THE EVENING HERALD.

Spring Vale, Sept. 6, 1869,

Sm, —Is it to be or not to be? that is the question. Surely we are not going to let the "subject drop, after so' much talk and an attempt to discover the precious metal, and allow the Napier people to walk in for the. honors. We should not forget the diggers motto "never venture never win. "Now, Sir, I have it from oneof the late prospectors, who I know is an experienced miner, that the Taupo district is to all appearance, a gold-bearing district, there being every indication to prove it; and what a pity it is;tO:allow it-to remain dormant for the want of searching, when there are several^ miners in this district at the present time willing and anxious to prospect and .open up the country, but have not got the pecuniary means. Now, Sir, I:would propose that some influential gentlemen in this town should call a public meeting, form a committee, and organise a prospecting party at once; for the time is fast approaching to make a start. lam sure that many of our tradesmen"would liberally support it if it was once pushed forward.—l am, &c, ■ A Miner.
