TARANAKI STEEL.

We have had left at our office for the inspection of the public, some samples of the last smelting at the Pioneer Steel Works. One piece of the steel is in its rough state from tho furnace ; the other is wrought into a razor blade, and is highly burnished. The former, for curiosity we beat with a common hammer, and found it perfectly malleable. When out at the works the other day, we were shown a bar of steel which had been run in a mould; and when suspended by a string and struck, the sound was most melodious. The specimens will be open for inspection for two or three days. The patent for the manufacture of this steel we understand, has been granted by the Governor; and therefore no one else will be al-

lowed to manufacture the steel by the same process, but the Company1 now forming.—Taranaki Herald.
