A monster meeting is to be held on Friday to express horror of the attempt made to assassinate the Duke of Edinburgh, and sincere condolence at the sufferings lie has sustained.
A profound sensation hns been caused by the news of the atrocity. "God Save the Queen" has been sung in the Theatre, and performed in the churches; and on the walls of concert rooms, and public assembly halls, the words are. displayed in large placards. Monday was celebrated as the anniversary of the Prince. The weather was beautiful, and the Fire Brigade Fete at Vauxhall was larg-oly attended. His Honor the Superintendent has forwarded an address to the Duke of Edinburgh at Sydney, as well as another to her Majesty the Queen, the latter being sent through the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
The first attempt made to raise the ship fteng-.il, now sunk at Purt Chalmers, has been ni;ide, and fhiied.
The cutter Fly has been totally wrecked at Oarnaru.
