CONVICTION OF THE SMUGGLER,

Mr. Inspector Atcheson. who returned from the Wairarapa last night, reports : that constable Brady, of the Hutt, las succeeded in seizing an illicit-still of about fifty gallons capacity, together with some spirits and ninety gallons of wash in the house of a man namted.Ridgway, a bricklayer, at Carterton. Acting on. information received, the constable, after a few pre--liminary enquiries, succeeded in capturing both thestiiland its proprietor at the same time.
