MELBOURNE. January 15. The small-pox on the Garonne is more serious than at first supposed. A scare has been raised iu consequence of remarks of the City Coroner, that the Melbourne Hospital is saturated with erysipelas, and should be pulled down. He attributes many deaths among patients to that cause. An Argus Special says that a company has been formed in London for the purpose of taking over the business of Messrs Cunningham, Eoy&e, Stead, and Co , of Chriatchurch. January 17. A Garonne passenger, named Morgan, has died of small-pox at the quarantine station. The Wesley an Conference has started a subscription for the families of the Clergymen drowned in the Tararua. £2OOO is already subscribed, y. Sailed—Eotorua, for Bluft'. * January 18. Another death among the small-pox patients at the Quarantine Station is feared. New Zealand oats, feeding, are quoted at 3s Id, milling 3s 3d ; wheat, 4s 9d. ADELAIDE. January 18. All the Garonne's passengers are progressing favorably. SYDNEY. January IS. The inquiry into the wreck of the steamer Wo tonga was concluded yes terday. The Marine Board found that the captain steered the wrong course, and that the mate who was in charge at the time of the accident should have summoned the captain. Both have been called upon to show cause why their certificates should not be suspended. The hearing of the charge will commence next Monday. January 17. Sailed —Wakatipu, for Wellington.
