Kabamea Riding Election

Aii election to fill the vacancy in thcBuller County Council, caused by the resignation of the member for Karamea Riding, Mr Edw. Ings, took place on Monday last. The polls wore taken at the Mokihinui in the building adjoining Sweet's accommodation house, Mr P. 8. D.empsey, Returning Officer, presiding, and at the Karamea in Simpson's store, Mr Hugh Craig being Deputy Returning Officer. Owing to the non-arrival of Mr Craig from Karamea the poll was not declared until 1 p in. on Friday last when the Returning Officer pronounced Alexander Stitt duly elected member for Karamea Hiding, County of Buller, the votes polled being as follow: —Kar;\mea Polling Booth—Stitt. 22; Wilson, 1!) ; Jones, 0. Mokihinui Polling Booth Stitt, IJj ; Wilson, 8; Jones, 0; Totah Stitt, 3G; Wilson, :J7, thus giving a majority of 9 for Stitt. MrMeyrick Jone3 had, before the election took place, withdrawn in favor of Mr Wilson, but he had not given notice in sufficient time for his name to be left off the ballot papers.
