Mr Thatcher's name requires no introduction to a mining community—we do not mean the clerical Mr Thatcher, chaplain to the late Governor of the Colony, but that lay gentleman, the Inimitable. Neither does Mr Small, Irish and comic as he is, require an introduction. And to be associated with them must be sufficient introduction to Mr Salamon and Mr Daniels—the former not unknown as lately the musical instructor of the Nathan Troupe, the latter very likely to make himself known as the "great delineator" of Henry Russell's songs. They arrive in Westport at an opportune time for "subjects"—electioneering adventures, "debts of honor" tried in Court, and others too numerous or too good to mention—and, with the facility in song-writing -which Mr Thatcher must have by this time acquired, there is little danger of them being treated otherwise than successfully. If the Masonic Hall is not crowded this evening, when MiThatcher makes his first reappearance on the West Coast, the West Coast or his fame must have degenerated during his absence. The members of the Legislative Council and House of Representatives are summon ed to meet at Wellington on Tuesday, the first day of February next. We observe that D. M. Luekie, Esq., of Nelson, has been appointed a Jasfcico of the Peace for the Colony of New Zealand. Mr Dillon Bell, one of the Commissioners to England, sailed by the Omeo. Dr Featherston follows on the 29th. Nelson is excited about more reef discoveries—this time at CoUingwood. There are said to be two reefs, and within the past few days eighteen mining leases of 16J acres each have been applied for.

It is rumored that Crown grants are to be issued to those who recently bought ground at Wangapeka, and it is also rumored that the ground is off the line of reef recently discovered.
