MAJOR ATLEE SURPRISED
AT CRITICISM OF REMARKS. CONCERNING SPANISH CONFLICT. BARCELONA, Thursday. The Leader of the Opposition, Major C. R. Attlee, expressed surprise at the criticism voiced by members of the House of Commons over his visit, when notice of motion was given demanding that he be censured for a “breach of faith” caused by a speech concerning the outcome of the Spanish conflict. He said he was entitled to come to Spain to obtain a first-hand impression. Miss Ellen Wilkinson, the Labour M.P., who is accompanying him, said: “He has done nothing that can be interpreted as a: breach of faith. Why shouldn’t we say what we have seen? That’s what we came for anyway.”
