FLOWER GARDEN. Spray Roses with nicontine to control green fly. Chrysanthemums must be sprayed to control rust. _ When Dahlias are about a foot high nip out the tip. This will give three side growths in the place of one. Weak liquid manure will assist the development of the blooms of Border Cainations. Disbud Border Carnations and also tie up or support the flower stems. Dahlias and Chrysanthemums can be planted. It is a good practice to pu, in the centre stake before planting. Salpiglossis, Salvias, Zinnias, Marigolds can be planted.. Gladioli need plenty of water when flower spikes begin to show. Miniature and Large Sunflowers can be planted now. Verbenas, Petunias, Zinnias sown now will give autumn plants. Lift Anemones and Ranunculi when foliage has yellowed dry, and clean the corms. , VEGETABLE GARDEN. Potato planting can be done. Earlier planted crops should be sprayed and earthed. Sow Lettuce and Radish to suit requirements. Plant out Brussels Sprouts, Savoys, Broccoli, Cabbage for autumn and winter AfterTthe final earthing of Potatoes, winter greens, Broccoli, Brussels Sprouts, etc., can be planted in the furrows. Thin crops of Parsnips, Carrots and other crops as soon as large enough to handle. Make periodical sowings of Dwarf Beans. Make a sowing of Sweet Com every ten days or so. Only a few seeds should be sown. Sow Pumpkins, Melons, Marrows, Cucumbers. A planting of Leeks can be made. Keep Tomatoes to one main stem, removing side shoots. At first signs of cabbage fly or white butterfly, spray with derris powder or arsenate of lead.
