In retaliation for the Catalonian raids, 24 Republican bombers successfully raided the naval air bases at Palma and Majorca. According to an official statement, three rebel planes and one Republican" were shot down in an air battle. It is claimed that the bombers inflicted heavy damage on the Majorca bases, where the Italians predominate. BARCELONA BOMBED. TWO HUNDRED PEOPLE KILLED. BARCELONA, Wednesday. Two hundred people are reported to have been killed in the first air raid for a month over Barcelona and suburbs. Fifteen big bombers participated in the raid, which lasted for nearly an hour. One plane was blown apart by anti-aircraft tire, and the others were driven off. The British Labour leader, Major Arthur Attlee, and his party arrived at Barcelona 40 minutes after the raid. NON-INTERVENTION POLICY. “TRULY A FARCE. ’’ LONDON, Wednesday. The “Daily Telegraph’s” Madrid correspondent says Major C. R. Attlee (British Opposition Leader) described the non-intervention policy as “truly a farce,” adding: “It should have been ended long ago. Everybody knows it is a farce.” MAJOR ATTLEE’S REMARKS. '* CENSURE VOTE DEMANDED. LONDON, Wednesday. Mr W. S. Liddall (Conservative), in the House of Commons, gave notice of motion demanding a vote of censure on the Leader of the Opposition, Major C. R. Attlee, for a “breach of faith” during his visit to Spain by his speech concerning the outcome of the Spanish conflict. When Mr Eden was questioned about Major Attlee’s visit in the House on 6th December, he replied that before leaving Major Attlee and the others signed the usual undertaking not to participate in any activities liable to be interpreted as inconsistent with the Government’s policy of non-interven-tion.

A message from Madrid published yesterday said that Major Attlee in a speech at a reception by the Madrid Municipality, declared: —“When we return to London we shall convene a public meeting to acquaint the British people of the real situation in unbeaten and invincible Republican Spain.” He added that anyone believing that the cause of the Spanish Republic was lost was either badly informed or of bad faith. “Our whole attitude henceforth will be based on our conviction of a final victory for the Spanish Government,” said Major Attlee.
