Croquet Club’s Dance. A delightful evening was spent by dancers from over a wide area at the Croquet Club’s dance on Saturday night. Mr J. Baine made an efficient M.C. Novelty events were won by Miss M. Larsen and partner and Miss Jensen and partner, whilst Mr F. Tilde sley won the competition for the dinner set. The supper room and tables were decorated with Iceland poppies and a delicious home-made supper was^njoyed by all. A * * * **- Cricket. In the Bush Cricket Association’s competition on Saturday last Mauriceville scored a 3-point win over Mangamaire. A feature of the match was the bowling of N. Williams, a young Mauriceville player, who in one over took 4 wickets, with tho last 4 balls of the over only 5 runs being scored off him. Mangamaire, who batted first, scored 33 and 84, M. Ralph 33 and W.. Jensen 13 being top scorers. M. Williams (4 for 5), A. Neilsen (4 for 5) and M. Webby (6 for 33) were the most successful bowlers. Mauriceville replied with 70 and 111, M. Webby .27 and 31, N. Williams 10 and 20, R. Dick 26 and 11 being topscorers for Mauriceville, whilst W. Jensen (7 for 23): and M. Ralph (2 for 12)' took the wickets for Mangamaire. * * * • Women’s Institute. Mrs H. Freeman presided over a good attendance of members in the West Hall yesterday when the Mauriceville Women’s Institute held their monthly meeting. The competition for the afternoon was won by Mrs J. Duncan. Another competition for the best collection of Xmas gifts brought forth' some wonderful samples of handwork which was hard to judge, Mrs A. Forsberg being adjudged the winner from Miss M. Larsen. An interesting debate on “Who Were the Best Home-makers: Our Grandmothers or the Modern Mothers,” was carried off by those who were in favour of the grandmothers. The winners were represented by Mrs Gregory, Mrs Duncan and Miss Mortensen, and the losers by Mrs Cameron, Mrs Jermy and Mrs Freeman. , The president extended the season’s greeting to all members and a dainty afternoon tea was served. * * * * School Concert. This will take place ne|| Saturday night in the Mauriceville Hill and is being keenly looked forward to. The children are practicing very earnestly and should well repay the efforts of their tutors. Two good plays will be produced, whilst five little scholars will dance the Irish jig. Many other items will fill ■ the programme which will ha followed by a dance and supper.
