WELLINGTON SALE COMPETITION- VERY KEEN. PRICES TJP ON NAPIER. WELLINGTON, This Day. The ivool sale opened briskly. The continent was a very keen buyer, but the passing-in of lots was frequent. The offering was 30,500 bales. Competition was exceedingly keen, but at buyers’ limits, which they are not prepared to exceed. The prices, in the opinion of some brokers, are up by Id and even fd on Napier for the better lines, and shabby wool is from par to Id better. Top prices in the earlier catalogues were:— Halfbred, Hid to 13}d. Pine crossbred, lid to 131 d. Medium crossbred, lOId to llld. Hoggets, lOd to lid, and lid to 13fd. Romney, lOfd to 12Id. Romney halfbred, llld to 13|d. Lambs, 12d to 14Id. Pieces, 6d to 7fd, and BJd to lOId, Crutchings, 6|d to 7ld, and 8d to 9fd. Necks, lOd to lid. Competition, is becoming keener as the sale proceeds. Bidding at times showed keen competition, but as indicated by previous sales at Auckland and Napier, buyers are still operating under very close limits. Being second in order of .selling we cannot at the time of writing give other than a progress report up to the disposal of our catalogue, but :so far prices have showed a general increase on valuations. Passings were few and we report an almost total clearance, which indicates that growers generally are prepared to accept the market prevailing to-day. SYDNEY SALES. NEW SEASON’S RECORD. SYDNEY,. Tuesday. At the wool Sales were offered and 9470 sold, lo|j privately. There was wider competition to-day from the Continent and Yorkshire, and good support from the local mills. The catalogue included, a number of specialty clips which met a very keen demand. Top price was 28Id, creating a new season’s record for greasy Merino.
