FLYING

WAIRARAPA AERO CLUB. PAST WEEK’S ACTIVITIES. (Contributed). Plying.—Another week of bad weather has seriously liandicaped flying activities, only seven hours’ flying being logged. Members who have flown during the week are A. G. Bennett, Miss P. Betts, D. Lambourn, L. Loasby, P. Dick, J. Wenden, A. W. Buchanan, D. Tilyard,. J. O. Reid, E. A. Heyder and D. P. Kennedy. Monthly Competition.—The monthly competition for one hour’s free flying was held on Sunday, and resulted in a win for Mr A. Buchanan, with 139 points, with Mr J. V. Reid second, with 160 points. The conditions were far from good, with fairly heavy rain fall-, ing and a rather gusty wind. Under these conditions it is natural that, in spite of fairly generous handicap allowances, the more experienced pilots were more to the fore than would be the case under normal conditions. Considering that this was the first of the serjes of competitions, all pilots put. up gqgd performances, and wo look to a steady improvement as the series progresses. The first'lrounds-of the competitions for the Sir Williain Hunt Cup and the McDonald Rose Bowl will be held on Sunday, 20tli.‘

Cabaret. —The cabaret which was held in the Clubhouse on Saturday, 12th, proved to be a great success. There was an attendance -' of over one - hundred members and friends,-who all seemed to enjoy themselves, and are keenly looking forward to the next of the series. The Clubhouse now bears a very different aspect to what it' did a few weeks ago, and the committee responsible for the decorations, furnishing, and the arrangements for the Cabaret, are to be congratulated upon their sterling work. A very tasty supper was dispensed by the ladies’ committee, and greatly helped towards the success of the evening, as did the music supplied from a high-power radio amplifier arranged in the ceiling of the ballroom.
