LACK OF TOWN LOYALTY.

(The Editor). Sir, —As,a visitor to Masterton I have been unfavourably impressed with the utter lack of town loyalty shown by many of the residents. Pessimists on every hand hastened to assure me that the town is slipping. They are not certain whether the rail car, the wrestling mania or the chain store menace is responsible. At the risk of being told to mind my own business I would suggest that a coat of paint on many of the houses and some of the shops might help to dispel the gloom. Drab surroundings breed pessimism. I have made purchases in many of the shops and found variety and quality at prices no higher than I pay in Wellington. I have noticed many new dwellings and also some empty houses which would soon be tenanted if they were renovated. I visited the Park on Sunday, a beautiful place, and listened to a band which would be a credit to any city. With a park so centrally situated and such a fine' band much could be done if the residents; would only bestir themselves, pull up their sox and get it done. Instead of yelping about the number of people the rail cars l will take away,. Masterton folk should shake up their dry bones, liven the place up and encourage visitors. With no apologies, I am, etc., A WELLINGTON VISITOR.
