Mr. J. Robertson, M.F., spent the week-end in Masterton. He returned to Wellington to-day. The Rt. Hon. R. B. Bennett, former Prime Minister of Canada,, and now Leader of the Opposition, arrived in Wellington yesterday morning, and is the guest of their Excellencies Lord and Lady Galway, at Government House.
Mrs A. G. Marshall, of Wellington, has been appointed Matron of St. Matthew ’s Collegiate School for Girls, Masterton, in succession to Miss Price, who recently accepted the position of matron of St. Cuthbert’s College, Epsom, Auckland. Mrs Crocombe, of Musselburgh, Dunedin, is celebrating her 102nd birthday tc-day. She arrived in Otago in 1852 by the ship Stately and has resided in the province ever since. She married shortly after her arrival Dr. Joseph Crocombe, the first doctor to settle in Otago. She enjoys good health, is alert in manner and still takes keen interest in current events.
The appointment is announced of a Conciliation Commissioner for Auckland, Mr Robert E. Price, for ten years Inspector of Factories at Auckland. He is president of the Fabian Club and vice-president of the Grey Lynn branch of the Labour Party. He was born and educated at Liverpool and arrived in New Zealand in 1909. Mr Price became a master mariner at the age of 22 and served during the Avar as a lieutenant in the Royal Naval Reserve. On returning to New Zealand he commanded the Canopus, a coastal steamer. Mr Price, Avho is a keen student of industrial affairs, began his noAV duties to-day.
