DEFENCE OF AUSTRALIA

PROGRAMME OUTLINED.

(Received Saturday, 10.20 a.m.) CANBERRA, This Day.

In announcing the Government’s defence programme; the Minister for Defence (Mr R. A. Parkhill) said that it included a new warship, to be built in Australia. The armaments in the cruisers Australia and Canberra were to be modernised. There would be an aircraft first line strength of 194 planes, of which ninety-six would be in service this year. Anti-gas training and the provision of equipment would be provided for.
