There was a large attendance of district settlers and town residents at, the funeral on Saturday afternoon of the late Mrs R. S. Cooper. ‘ The many beautiful wreaths that were in evidence bore witness to the high esteem in which she was held. The services at the house and at the conducted by the Rev. G. F. StOckwell. Formerly of Massey Collegers well as Auckland University ColfPfe and Canterbury Agricultural College, Mr Kenneth Maclaurin Rudall has been awarded the degree of doctor of philosophy at the University of Leeds, where he has been engaged for the past two years in research in wool biology. He has also won the Ackroyd Memorial Fellowship at Leeds. Dr. Rudall graduated from Auckland University College in 1931, taking the degree of master of science with first-class honours in zoology. He then went to Massey College on a Sir James Gunson research scholarship in agriculture and a national research scholarship from the Department of Industrial and Scientific Research. For two years he worked on research in wool biology and subsequently continued that work at Canter-, bury Agricultural College. In 1934 Dr. Rudall was awarded a fellowship by the Cloth Makers 5 Guild of Leeds, tenable for two years at the University of Leeds.

At St. John’s Church, LatimeoSquare, Christchurch, on Wednesday lAt, the marriage was Pavitt (New Plymouth) tel Mrs Rugby M. Stubbs, of Palmerston North. The Rev. J. T. McWilliam performed the ceremony. Mr C. Davies was the organist. The bride and bridegroom are direct descendants of the early pioneers of Canterbury. The bride’s grandfather, Mr S. C. Farr, and the bridegroom’s father, Mr Edward Pavitt, arrived in Akaroa in April, 1850, in the barque Monarch, which arrived before the First Four Ships. The bride, who was given away by her father, Mr E.C. Farr, wore an ensemble of wine wool georgette and a hat to tone. She carried a bouquet of sweet peas, fuchsias, carnations and pink abutilons. She was attended by her cousin, Miss Macbean Stewart, who wore a black and white frock, finished with a shoulder spray of white velvet flowers. Her black hat was relieved with white, and she carried a bouquet of abutilons, freesias and sweet peas. The bridegroom was attended by his cousin, Mr N. W. Pavitt.
