NEGLECTED DOGS.

Sir, —May I, through the medium of your paper, draw attention to certain dogs, apparently half-fed and with no proper shelters, that are left to roam around the streets and who disturb people’s rest at night by their continual barking and yelping? I am told by various people who pass along High Street between 6.30. and 7 a.m. that they see several dogs (mostly sheep dogs) huddled up shivering in doorways. Surely there are enough old packing cases and sacks going to waste in this town that could be bought for a few pence and made into warm shelters, if the owners of these aogs would take the trouble to do so.

It is a downright shame to leave a dog to wander around these cold winter nights and I trust that this appeal will catch their owners’ eyes when seated in front of their own good fires, so that they will decide to give a thought to the comfort of these poor animals who ask for so little and are such faithful friends of mankind, to say nothing of a little consideration towards other people whose rest is disturbed night after.night. Are there no representatives of the S.P.O.A. in this town? —I am, etc., « . “A LOVER OF DOGS.’’
