Mr William Alfred Percy, a member of one of the pioneer Pctono families, has: died in his 82nd year. The Hon. Sir Alfred Ransom, ActingPrime Minister, returned to Wellington yesterday from Dannevirke. He is almost completely restored to health.

Mr R. Coulter has been selected as the Labour Party candidate for the Waikato scat. Mr Coulter is Mayor of To Arolia, an. office he has held for 14 years. The death has occurred at Wellington of Lady Edwards, widow of the lato Sir Basset Edwards, who was for many years a Justice of the Supreme Court Bench of New Zealand. Lady Edwards, who was an old resident of Wellington, was formerly Miss Mary Ann Sayers. A Melbourne cable announces the death of Sir John Macfarland, Chancellor of the University of Melbourne. Sir John Macfarland was well known in New Zealand, where every year ho spent a month trout fishing in the lakes and rivers. He served the University in its highest posts: and was remarkable for his ability as administrator.
