The death is announced from Gisborne of Miss Evelyn Maud Williams, daughter of the late Mr J. W. Williams, who was a member of Parliament from 1873 till 1879, and sister of Mr K. S. Williams, M.P. for the Bay of Plenty. Captain B. W. Broker, M.M., of the Ist Battalion, Hawke’s Bay Regiment, has been promoted to the rank of Major, and appointed Officer Commanding G Company, which is comprised of trainees in the Panne-virke and Masterton districts.

Major R. W. Fenton, Wellington, who holds the command of the 19th Battery, has been promoted do the rank of lieutenant-colonel and given the command of all field batteries in the Central Command. He is the first Territorial officer commissioned since the war who has gained this rank.

The death occurred at the residence of her daughter, Mrs L. Smith, Foxton, of Mrs Ellen Hudson, aged 82 years. Mrs Dudson, who was a sister-in-law of Mr J. A. Dudson, of Carterton, was born in London, and came to New Zealand with her parents in the sailing ship Mystery 78 years ago. She was well known in the Wairarapa.

At a meeting of the East Coast P. and A. Society on Saturday, a vote of condolence was passed with the relatives of Mr A. Vickers, of Levin, all members standing. A letter of sympathy is to be forwarded to Mr H. Rayner, Parkvale, who is at present confined to his bed.

At the annual meeting of the Masterton Junior Homing Pigeon Club, the following officers were elected for the ensuing season: —Patron, Mr A. T. Longworth; president, Mr J. W. F.
