COKE MEASURE.

(The Editor.) Sir,—May I ask, per medium of the “Daily Times,” if the sacks used by our local coke dealers are standardised? If not, is it not time our Weights and Alcasures Department, in the interests of the public, moved in the matter of standardising and stamping coke sacks? Some dealers quote large sacks, but that is somewhat vague, as in my experience I find large sacks vary in size. Coke is an expensive fuel to buy these days, and the protection of the public is warranted by our Weights and Measures Department. Thanking you.—l am, etc., FAIRPLAY.

(No provision is made in the regulations for standardisation of sacks, but where coke or coal is conveyed in sacks for delivery to a purchaser, each sack shall have securely affixed ‘ a suitable label showing the weight of coke or coal in such sack, but this clause shall not apply if a ticket, in specified form, shows:,Name and address of seller, name and address of purchaser, and “Please receive herewith tons ewts., qtrs., lbs. net weight,” and this ticket is to be carried and produced to the inspector, the purchaser or his representative before the coke or coal is removed from the sacks or the vehicle. Therefore, if a purchaser is not satisfied that, he is getting correct weight, he should not take delivery and should report the matter to the inspector. — Ed., W.D.T.)
