A shabby old fellow was observed walking along the sunny side of Queen Street, Auckland, the other morning, and scrutinising both pavement and gutter as he walked. Ecery now and again he’d stoop and pick up something which he would drop into the little straw kit he was carrying. What was ho doing? Collecting cigarette stubs. When questioned, he said he couldn’t afford to buy tobacco, so he’d hit upon this way to keep his pipe going, “because, d’ye see,’’ he said, “bacca I must have! Can’t do without it. When times mend” (with a laugh), “I’ll go back to my old brand —Cut Plug No. 10. That’s some bacca, that is!” (Hero a coin changed hands, and the stub-collector went on his way ieioicing.) It’s hardly necessary to add that Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead) is one of the five genuine toasted brands. The others are: Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Riverhcad Gold and Desert Gold. Full of flavour and fragrance, they have the remarkable property of being quite harmless. That’s tho toasting! But avoid worthless imitations!
