CHRISTCHURCH APPEAL.

Approximately £IOOO had been received late on Thursday night from the Poppy Day street appeal by the Christchurch Returned Soldiers’ Association for the relief of distress among returned men. It is expected that the total will be increased to at least £1250 when all returns come in. Last year’s total was £1336. —(P.A.) WELLINGTON COLLECTION. WELLINGTON, Friday. The Poppy Day street collections on Thursday proved to be most successful. The takings by the Wellington City and auxiliary committees amounted to £774 Is l*d, which is £75 above last year. No* results have yet been received from the outlying districts, Petone, the Hutt and Porirua. Over a hundred poppies were ordered for Government House, where at Lord Galway’s request everyone in the household wore a poppy. —(P.A.)
