BADMINTON
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION.
The first annual report of the Wairarapa Badminton Association states: Although the Wairarapa Badminton Association was not formed until late in the season, a very successful season was experienced. Considerable difficulty was experienced in obtaining affiliation direct to the New Zealand Badminton Federation, who desired your association to affiliate as a sub-association to Wellington. However, strong representations wore made by your committee to the federation, who eventually reconsidered their previous decision, and we are now affiliated as a separate association direct to the New Zealand Badminton Federation. Eight clubs affiliated to the association during the season. They were:—Cranford (16 members), Defence (34), Featherston (25), Knox (37), Masterton (29), Martinborough (33), Methodist (33), and Nomads (30), a total of 221 members. An inter-club competition, in which all eight clubs competed, was run by your association, which resulted in a win for the Nomads Club after several’ very keen matches. Nomads thus became the holders of the Inter-Club Competition Cup, presented by Mr 11. M. A. Major. During the Y.M.C.A. Carnival an exhibition match was played between two teams chosen from the Wairarapa. A match between a Wellington team and the Wairarapa was also played, in which nearly all the games were closely contested, although Wellington won decisively. . . It is hoped during the forthcoming season to run a tournament as well as an inter-club competition, the tournament to be run during the early part of the season. Th o finances of your association show a satisfactory credit balance. Your committee would like to record their
appreciation of the services rendered by the officer in charge of the Drill Hall, by Mr N. H. James for auditing our accounts, by the Masterton and Nomads Clubs in lending equipment, and by the Press for their generous support and their full and accurate reports of tho various matches and the inter-club competition.—(Signed) For the Committee, H. M. A. Major, president; J. K. Logan, secretary.”
