GOLF
NOTES BY “PUTT.”
Masterton Clubs.
Although the weather conditions were of the worst, the Masterton clubs, Mahunga, Masterton and Riverside, opened their links last Saturday. The Easter holidays should see large numbers out getting in practice and playing in the competitions which are being held on the various links during the holidays.
Albert Chevalier, who is assistant to his father at Reddish Yale and is the present holder of the Manchester and District Alliance Championship, recently turned in a remarkable card of 61 for his home course. The score cannot be accepted as an * official “record,” having been made in a friendly match with H. W. Fiddaman, the Heaton Moor professional, but it is by two strokes the best round ever played at Reddish Yale. Chevalier had 2’s at three of the five short holes and six 3’s, in a return which was exactly ten strokes under the scratch score;, for the course, which measured 5900 yards. He had only 27 putts!
