MOTOR COLLISION

TRUCK DRIVER KILLED. HAMILTON, Saturday. A young man was killed and four other motorists were injured in a collision which occurred at the comer of Galloway Street and Cambridge Road, shortly after 3 o’clock this afternoon, between a heavy motor truck laden with drums of rpetrol and a touring car returning from a funeral at the Hamilton East Cemetery. The young man who lost his life was teamed Gillies. He was the son of a garage proprietor at Taupo. Of the injured Patrick Shivnan sustained severe cuts, abrasions and shock. His condition is not serious. Edward H. O’Neill received cuts, bruises and severe shock. His condition is not serious. John Shivnan and John Murphy jboth suffered shock and abrasions.

The truck is rated at 41 tons and is ftrwned by the Gillies Motor Service Station at Taupo. It was returning south with a consignment of 2000 gallons of jpetrol in drums when the accident occurred. The car, driven by John SShivnan, was emerging from Galloway Street. The impact occurred on the crown of the road. The two vehicles anet with terrific force. The car was struck squarely on the left-hand side and thrown high into the air, somersaulting several times before coming rto fest on its wheels on a strip of lawn 20 yards from the point of impact. The motor truck, with the driver as its sole occupant, mounted the footpath and overturned. The driver was pinned in the cab. Ho suffered extensive head injuries and died before his admission to the Waikato Hospital. The four occupants of the car had a remarkable escape from serious injury. The truck was not severely damaged, but the car will be a total loss.
