AUSTRALIAN SQUADRON
ARRIVAL AT WELLINGTON. WELLINGTON, This Day. The Australian Squadron arrived here, on an informal visit, at 7 o’clock this morning, from Hauraki Gulf. They have been berthed at various wharves. Rear-Admiral Ford left the flagship Canberra, at 9.30, to pay official calls, a salute of 13 guns from Point Jermingham being fired as he left the ship. The vessels remain in Wellington for varying periods. The destroyer Ven- , detta will be.leaving for New Plymouth on Monday. The • destroyers Stuart and Voyager leave for Sydney on 28th March, the Canberra for Lyttelton on 29th March, and the Sussex for Dunedin on 31st March, thence to Hobart. The Now Zealand warships Diomede and Leith are in port and the usual courtesies are being exchanged. Various entertainments for officers and men have been arranged by the Navy League and other organisations. There will be an Australian Squadron dance on tho Canberra on Tuesday. While in the Hauraki Gulf manoeuvres were carried out. These included an anti-aircraft shoot, sub-calibre shooting by destroyers and torpedo attacks, both day and night. Fine weather was experienced on the run to Wellington. — (P.A.)
